So like I have said a million times before, our house was a foreclosure that was gutted of all appliances. Everything from the dishwasher to the range hood was taken by the bitter former owners of this place. I tried to contact them to ask if we could buy some of them back (as they are still good friends with our neighbors) but they were super nasty to deal with. So off to Lowes, home depot, and sears we went to replace the stuff they took with them. After buying the necessities first, the last appliance we had to replace was the wall oven/microwave combination. WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS! Never again will we buy a home without appliances! We have been putting off the purchase of the oven because #1. it was SUPER expensive and 2. we couldn’t find the right size to fit in this irregular sized oven hole:
You can see along the top how the previous owners cut into the cabinetry to make their oven fit there –which made it even harder to find the right size. grrrr. Finally I found a model and size that was pretty close (it’s still not even perfect!!!!!) and take my chances that it would fit. We opened up a sears card to get an additional 5% off the already 20% discounted price bringing the total investment to $1998. What a joke, right? The upside to buying this model is that the oven and microwave are actually separate pieces that can be repaired on their own if they break. It used to be that if you broke one, you had to replace the whole thing! I hope we can keep this thing in good working order for a long time because this was one headache that I am glad is over! Here are some more of the finished job.
AAs you can see, there is still a 2 inch gap between the cabinetry and the oven. The guy who installed it had to pretty much build a shelf to make it fit. This was the closest we could get to a perfect fit and I am pretty happy with it. All I have to do is buy and stain a piece of trim to fill the little gap and it will be perfect. I apologize for this super boring post but this is a monumental day in our house. We were able to ditch our crappy microwave and free up some more counterspace which I was really excited about!!!! So now we have all stainless steel appliances in our home and I no longer have to stalk Sears.com! Yay!

So pretty and shiny!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally feel your pain with buying a foreclosure!! Our new house was a foreclosure and the previous owners took the refrigerator, every mirror in the house (bathrooms), every closet rod and shelving and every blind in the entire house! When we bought it I didn't think it was a big deal, but even trying to put blinds up is going to cost a gazillion dollars! They even took all the light fixtures/fans, but luckily we got the bank to replace some of those before we bought the house. I just don't understand why they take all that because what are they going to do with it?!
ReplyDeleteI love the way it looks. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting!
